In the last few weeks I was flying in the FSEconomy network which turn out to be quite fun. It gave me the opportunity to improve my IFR flights and ILS/LOC landings, I mean, for years I did not find the time to have a good flight between two airports and to handle the plane in situations of IFR conditions or ILS approaches.
Having so many tasks between airports in FSEconomy, and with the help of SkyVector I quickly became proficient enough to feel conferrable flying ILS/LOC approaches. The constant parameter during these times was the plane, that way handling the it become easier and predictable in tight situations.
So how all this adds up to Mission-X you ask ?
Well, I found out that I had two options to plan my flight routes:
- Direct one: point to point flight.
- Low/High altitude routes using "online flight plan" sites.
That was when it hit me - Mission-X supports "flightsimdatabase" queries. We can use it to build some kind of a route, if it has one. This at least will give me the feel as I am flying real world route. The other option is to prepare a route by myself and enter it into the FMC/GPS.
So here is how I use Mission-X to produce a route.
Pick an assignment in FSEconomy:
Once we have our assignment we then need to produce a flight plan.
One option is simple direct course, but the other is to fetch from a pre-defined routes.
In the following example we take off from KDOV (Dover AFB) and land in KBTV (Burlington Intl) airport.
Open Mission-X
Let's use Mission-X to query "flightplandatabase.com" site.
In such cases, I suggest to use "flightplandatabase.com" site to build a route for you.
Log to: flightplandatabase.com and in the "Quick Plan" widget, enter the route and press [Fly!]:
The page has more information than what is shown here like weather and winds. You can take your time and check the information before flying.
Now that we have a flight plan in " flightplandatabase.com", we can fetch it into Mission-X.
Re-run the same search query:
Now all we have to do is to generate a mission and so we will have a flight plan:
Once you started the "Mission-X mission" you can then start the "FSEconomy mission" too.
Last, I have added a new option to the "FlightDatabase" and "ILS" screens to force start position to where the plane is currently located. This will ignore the need to "re-position" the plane in a ramp area by the plugin and hence cause the plane to be in "start engine" mode.
This option will be available in Mission-X v3.0.254.11 which I have not published yet (as of 13-mar-2021).
